Why is my air conditioning freezing up?
When your AC unit is freezing up, something has altered your system that cools your evaporator coil more than it should, causing the unit to freeze up. Your air conditioning unit may be freezing up because:

Remove Cobwebs - Clean The Critical External Unit (Condenser and Compressor)
- Turn off Power at the main electrical panel.
- Clear weeds, leaves, debris around the outdoor unit. Air flow is critical for efficient operation.
- Clean and straighten the air conditioner fins. Dirt can accumulate between fins. Use a brush or knife if tough to brush off.
- Clean condenser fan. A lot of dust and debris can accumulate over time and it needs to be cleaned at regular intervals. Use a damp cloth to remove dirt, leaves.
- Clean fins inside out. Spray fins with a garden hose to remove dirt.

Clean Inside Unit - Inspect The Coils For Grime And Conquer It (Evaporator and Blower)
- Clean evaporator coil. The door is usually inside the furnace and a lot of dirt builds up there. Use a soft brush to move dust out of the way then spray it with a no-rinse coil cleaner improve its efficiency. You can also use mild detergents and water to get rid of the dirt between the coils.
- Evaporator drain can get clogged due to the buildup of algae and mold, and it needs to be unplugged. Clogged PVC drain can cause flooding, odors, even stop HVAC from cooling. You can use a wet/dry vacuum cleaner to get rid of debris in the evaporator drain.
- Change blower air filter. Dirty air filter can stop the unit, increase utility costs and damage the unit. Change at least twice a year. Check monthly to see how dirty the filter is.
