1,800,000 people die every year from horrible water diseases. The World Health Organization estimates that 88% of the deaths are due to unsafe water supply, sanitation and hygiene. Read about waterborne infections then imagine those who live with this disease.

Joliet, IL Rotary Club funds clean water in Africa.

The Malawi Clean Water Project began after Joliet Rotarian Doug Spesia’s death in 2010. A memorial fund was started to construct the Douglas Spesia Centre in Thyolo, Malawi. The town of about 8,000 was in need of a clean water source because water-related illnesses such as cholera and typhoid.  Recognizing this need, the Joliet Rotary Club stepped in to help. Read more
