Most people are aware that water can rust metals, and with enough time, will erode metal away. Seems pretty simple, but people forget that a hot water heater is made of metal and the water inside can be extremely hot and corrosive.
That’s why ALL STORAGE WATER HEATERS COME WITH ANODE RODS!
What is an Anode Rod? Imagine an anode rod much like a magnet. All the corrosive materials are drawn to the anode rod, not the tank. It is a highly important part in your water heater, but it is designed to wear away over time and needs to be replaced periodically.
The photo shows how water melted away the metal anode rod. Next, your water will start attacking the lining of your water heater and eventually causing a leak, maybe a serious flooding and water damage problem.
Don’t gamble. Make sure your anode rod is feeling happy! And don’t forget to flush your water heater of mineral buildup. Once a year would be smart. You extend its life and get more hot water. Contact PDM Plumbing for help.
