Old Rusty Water Piping Can Cause Trouble - The Kind You Can Live
Without.
Buildings built before 1988 used lead as a primary ingredient in
piping solder. By now that lead could be finding its way into your
water supply. Even steel pipes corrode causing rust to taint your
water. So if your water has a funny taste or look or your pipes are
leaking, it’s time to call PDM.
Six reasons to change out old, corroded, leaking pipes.
- Water health quality - microbiologically influenced corrosion
has recently been determined to be a major factor in water health
quality.
- Water purity - the existence of dirt, rust, minerals,
and fungi making your water cloudy and impure.
- Property value - the presence of rotting, corroded pipe
reduces real estate value.
- Old pipes - destroys your plumbing fixtures and appliances.
Bathtubs, tile, toilets, sinks, dish and clothes washers become
stained & require extensive cleaning or replacement.
- Corroded pipes - destroys the effectiveness of your water
system. It shrinks the water pipe creating low water pressure and
low water volume.
- New piping can lower your insurance costs.
PDM plumbing maintenance helps reduce the possibility of water problems.

Contaminating the water supply can cause real problems.
In the same manner as sucking a drink through a straw, contaminants
can enter your drinking water line from “cross connections”.
A cross connection is where a non-drinking water substance (sometimes
deadly) has the ability to come in contact with drinking water. Water
cross connections such as these can easily enable contaminants to
enter the water lines through a process known as backflow.
What is Backflow?
- Backflow is water flowing in the opposite direction of its normal
flow and caused by a drop in pressure in a water system (opening
a fire hydrant?).
- Undesirable reversal of flow of non-drinking water substance
through a cross connection and into the piping of a public water
system or consumer’s drinking water supply.
- Backflow can allow bacteria, chemicals or physical contaminants
to enter the water system and contaminate the water supply of not
only residence at the contamination site but also for customer’s
who might drink water from sources down the line from the contamination
site.
Protect your property from flooding, especially sewage: Install
a sewer backflow valve.
In some flood-prone areas, flooding can cause sewage from sanitary
sewer lines to back up into houses through drain pipes. These backups
not only cause damage that is difficult to repair but also create
health hazards.
A good way to protect your building from sewage backups is have PDM
install backflow valves, which are designed to block drain pipes temporarily
and prevent flow into your house or business. Backflow valves are
available in a variety of designs that range from the simple to the
complex. Call or order help online today and have the plumbing experts
at PDM come by for a free inspection.
